Wahine Māori in Tech Delegation Makes History

Wahine Māori in Tech Delegation Makes History
Now that I’ve had a couple of weeks to sink back into the reality of life and mahi after our two week wahine Māori in tech delegation I’m eager to share highlights and outcomes including my whakaaro on our trip to Paris,Dublin and London. I’m proud to have had the opportunity to represent not only my company but my whānau, community and iwi.

I was joined by 9 wahine toa in tech who are trailblazers in the industry in their own rights and last but not least this would have not been possible without Naomi Manu and Natalie Smith leading our delegation from Te Taumata.

Our first stop was Paris, where we were welcomed by Ambassador Caroline Bilkey Embassy of France in New Zealand Direction de la diplomatie économique and Alexandre Boudiak Ngā mihi Mahana ki a koutou katoa.

We discussed opportunities for tech businesses and partnerships in France particularly in Paris, Benefits of the EU-NZ Free Trade Agreement and how businesses can leverage it, including provisions around Māori cooperation.

The highlight of our visit to Paris was meeting the wonderful Vanessa Moungar Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer of LVMH.
To hear her background story and learn about her experiences was insightful and inspiring to say the least as an indigenous woman and wahine māori I understand the ethnic challenges we face socially and politically in saying that Vanessa mentioned that she had never heard anyone introduce where they are from - geographically speaking before actually introducing themselves first however the Tikanga of Pepeha isn’t so much about introduction but more so about “Connection” and in our whakawhanaungatanga I truly felt a connection to you ē hoa. Thank you for your time.

He mihi nunui ki te tangata me te whenua ō Parani, Tēnā koutou mō tōu manaakitanga.

To sum up our haerenga I want to share a whakataukī that we use in Awarua and it is:

“Nā tō rourou, nā taku rourou
ka ora ai te iwi”

With your food basket and my food basket the people will thrive!
